Curator's Note
A Green Dot is an educational art exhibition featuring works that engage the pressing issues of climate change, man-made pollution, recycling and Singapore’s ever changing physical landscape.
It is an ambitious art exhibition presenting over 30 selected new works from the school’s General Art Programme, the Art Elective Programme, and works by the alumni. The craft types include photography, stop-motion animation, video documentation, mail art, sculptures and paintings.
An art exhibition concept conceived in late 2006, the art teachers tried hard to intergrate the theme of environment into their teaching Scheme of Work, to produce an array of works, touching on various environmental issues on the process. The images are accompanied by text written by the students, followed by a short commentary by the art teachers guiding the students, to cast some light on the creative processes involved in art making. The individual or group works selected for the exhibition satisfied the following criteria:
1. It must have a personal interpretation of their relationship with the environment around us;
2. It must have a degree of competency in it's execution, creative manipulation of materials,contemporary aesthetic appeal
Other works that are not exhibited are selectively documented here, giving credit to good work by students.
On behalf of the students and school, we wish to thank Singapore Management University for the use of the Gallery, National Arts Council for listing this art exhibition under the auspices of the prestigous Singapore Art Show, the various sponsors for donation or loan in kind. This exhibition would not be possible without the support of the school management, commitment by the various individuals (see the acknowledgment link above) - both staff and students - to see this exhibition from start to finish; from a seed of imagination to a growing passion for the visual arts.
