The Aluminium Tree

Materials Used: Metal Cans, Wire Mesh

This is a tree that is entirely made up of recycled aluminum cans. It is to portray the fact that if we recycle and reuse resources, we would be able to save the environment around is.

How did you come up with the idea for this artwork? How much help did the teacher give?

This was suppose to be a prop for our previous project, but the teacher saw the potential in it, not wanting to put it to waste and the idea developed from a tower to a tree. The teacher gave technical guidance along the way, most of the work was done by us.

What are some of the difficulties faced when making the work?

The roots of the tree were most difficult as we had no idea how they were suppose to be. The washing and cleaning of the dirty cans that we collected was also a chore as the smell was overwhelming.

(For groups) How did you come to a consensus on any decisions?

We hear each other out and make decisions which satisfy everybody.

What have you learnt from this extended art project? (technical or about the environment)

There is a lot that we can do to conserve the environment, every littke thing we do makes a difference.

Did you make any sketches, preparatory studies before commencing on this?

No.

If you had more resources, what will you improve for the art work? Or not at all?

We could have tried to make it resemble a tree more.
