 The Balance of The Sea

Materials Used: Poster paint and mixed media

In recent years, the seas and rivers around the world are becoming more and more polluted. The ‘yin-yang’ symbol is used to represent the clean and polluted sea environments that personify the good and the evil in the world and how the different groups of people: good and evil, protect and pollute the sea environment respectively.

How did you come up with the idea for this artwork? How much help did the teacher give?

We came up with the idea because we love the sea and wanted to show how much the sea has changed. The teachers helped us to bring out the contrast clearer and also helped us to refine the composition.

What are some of the difficulties faced when making the work?

-       painting in the artists’ style

-       piecing the pieces together (some of the pieces did not fit)

(For groups) How did you come to a consensus on any decisions?

Each of us came up with the ideas, then we decide what we think as the better idea.

What have you learnt from this extended art project? (technical or about the environment)

-       the drastic change of the environment

-       how much human have caused this change

Did you make any sketches, preparatory studies before commencing on this?

Yes, we used Adobe Photoshop to compose the composition used in the final painting.

If you had more resources, what will you improve for the art work? Or not at all?

Not at all.
