Class:Sec 3 AEP Preschool Environmental Education Kit (PEEK) The Preschool Environmental Education Kit or PEEK was conceived in November 2006 by the NYGH Environmental Science Council as a learning kit aimed at raising awareness among preschool children of the threats facing our natural environment and what we can all do to help protect our planet. PEEK will comprise seven light-hearted but meaningful short stories, each depicting a threat that currently confronts our environment, and every story will end with a simple lesson for the children, showing them how they can do their part to safeguard the Earth from further damage. Set to be completed at the end of 2007, the tone and visual design of PEEK is being continuously improved and revised with the help of experts in the field of preschool education, and customized following actual classroom trials. The project has also grown to include other offices of the school, including the Aesthetics, English, Science, and Humanities Departments. Each story in PEEK comes in a set of A3 sized picture charts with the text of the story on one side and an illustration on the other. The stories and illustrations are all original creations done by students handpicked by the English Department as well as from our Art Elective Programme. Our teachers, meanwhile, oversee the progress of the project, ensuring its pedagogical pertinence in the context of preschool education. The PEEK project has allowed our teachers and students an opportunity to apply their creativity in both research in environmental science, as well as writing and illustrating for a younger audience and come 2008, we hope that PEEK will be integrated into every preschool’s curriculum and well-received by both teachers and children.
